The Author
Dorothy Jackson-Kimble is a published
author. Her by-lines appeared in the Wayne County Community College
newspaper in 1973-1974.
Her story about her brother’s suicide
appeared in Day’s Dawn: A Short Story Anthology published by the Detroit
Writer’s Guild in 1996.
Her story entitled, “When Mom Paid
County Tax Bill, Streetcar Trip was Daughter’s Fun was published by the
Detroit Free Press in the Michigan Memories section in 1993.
In 1997, she wrote five short
biographies of women pioneers of her church for the Powerful Women of
Purpose’s newsletter.
She developed the Greater Grace Temple
Christian Education Class No. 8 newsletter in 1998 that featured
biographies of senior class members.
In 1998, the Detroit Writer’s Guild
published her story that had been printed in the Detroit Free Press
“When Mom Paid Tax Streetcar Trip was Daughter’s Fun” in Paradise Valley
Days: A Photo Album Poetry Book Detroit 1930’s to 1950’s.
In November 1998, her short story
entitled “Depression Era Flat Overflowed with Sweet Adventures of
Childhood” was published in a Detroit News magazine supplement.
Her family history book, the Bloodline,
was published in 1997 and distributed to family members.
In 1997, the Gerontology Department of
Wayne State University sponsored a contest for senior citizens. Dorothy
received an honorable mention for her story titled “Meeting John Emory.”
In April 2004, she was one of the
winners in the Why I Love the Detroit Public Library contest.
In 2004, she self-published her memoir
A Mighty Long Way, that is the story of her life in Detroit. It is
available in the bookstore at Greater Grace Temple Church and copies can
